Responsibilities of Position

Our Code Compliance Inspectors are a team of professionals committed to the wellbeing of our neighborhoods and, by extension, our residents. They monitor and inspect the interiors and exteriors of existing properties, buildings, and structures to ensure they are safe and fit for use. Code Compliance Inspectors are subject matter experts on relevant codes, able to partner with and guide tenants, property owners, and landlords to ways to keep or move properties, buildings, and structures into compliance. Their time is split between doing inspections throughout the community and completing requisite follow up in the office. Code Compliance Inspectors may be required to work occasional evening or weekend hours due to meetings, special events, or projects. 

The starting hourly rate is $39.83 plus an excellent fringe benefits package.  Applications must be submitted online no later than Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in enforcement, inspection, investigation or customer service that involves a high level of public contact.
  • Any equivalent combination of work experience and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • The ability to perform the essential functions of the position including conducting onsite inspections in outdoor conditions in a variety of structures, with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in planning, building technology, fire science, business administration, or related field.
  • Experience as a property maintenance inspector, building inspector, private building inspector, or similar; or experience in building construction in one or more of the skilled trades.
  • Front line or direct customer service experience.
  • Experience with public sector code enforcement.
  • Experience with customer relations or case management software.
  • Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector, Fire Inspector, or Building Inspector certification. Incumbents will be required to obtain certification as an International Code Council Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector within an approved timeframe after appointment.

Drug screening, driving record review, and criminal background check will be required.
