Metro Transit's Capital Projects is hiring a Contract / Principal Contract Administrator who will be responsible for facilitating procurement of engineering and construction services and assist in the development and implementation of project controls functions, and contract and project management support for the project office. This is a hybrid role.

What you would do in this job

  • Serve as the lead staff on procurement of contracts while working closely with other departments, including Met Council Contracts and Procurement staff to ensure compliance with Council and FTA contract and procurement requirements.
  • Work with project managers to gain understanding of project needs.
  • Track and report on active and upcoming project contracts, including contract budgets and expirations.
  • Manage procurement processes, including IFB and RFP development, proposal evaluation, bidder questions, and other tasks related to assigned contracts.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

This position will be filled as one of the following classifications based on qualifications and business needs. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required for all levels.

Principal Contract Administrator (Non-Represented Grade I, Exempt - $89,668 - $145,516)

Any of the following combinations of experience (progressively responsible project and construction management experience) and completed education (in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Architecture or related field):

  • High school diploma/GED with nine (9) years of experience.
  • Associates degree with seven (7) years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, and five (5) years of experience.

Contract Administrator (Non-Represented Grade G, Non-exempt - $76,690 - $124,467)

Any of the following combinations of experience (progressively responsible project and construction management experience) and completed education (in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Architecture or related field):

  • High school diploma/GED with seven (7) years of experience.
  • Associates degree with five (5) years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, and three (3) years of experience.

What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):
  • Experience working on FTA projects
  • Experience in project management and coordination of multiple disciplines
  • Experience and technical knowledge in the preparation of contracts
  • Working knowledge of government contracting requirements
  • Experience with construction management software programs, including e-Builder
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and support an equitable, positive, and respectful work environment that values cultural diversity among all employees
What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:
  • Knowledge of and professional/technical principals in areas of functional responsibility
  • Knowledge of tools and techniques for planning projects
  • Knowledge of construction management software programs, including e-Builder
  • Knowledge of Council and FTA procurement practices and policies
  • Skilled in verbal and written communications
  • Skilled in team management techniques, principles and practices
  • Skilled in communication techniques to bring about agreement between divergent points of view
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, or equivalent software packages
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, or Council members
  • Ability to promote an equitable, positive and respectful work environment that values cultural and diversity among all employees

Additional information

Work Environment: You would perform your work in a standard office setting. Work may sometimes require travel between your primary work site and other sites. This is a hybrid role.
