Senior Mechanical Engineer

ATS has an exciting line of high-performance test systems that support the semiconductor industry around the world.

ATS is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Lake Forest, CA. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced engineer with a diverse electro-mechanical skill set and solid understanding of system design to work within several engineering disciplines. This individual will perform a wide range of mechanical and thermal-mechanical systems engineering functions related to the design, testing, and evaluation of hardware systems used for testing electronic systems including semiconductors and embedded devices. Develop new and/or modified existing designs in a fast-paced environment. Serve on product development team(s) and be assigned specific sub-assembly or sub-system mechanical design responsibility.
The ideal candidate will bring experience with electro-mechanical and/or thermal-mechanical engineering design and analysis. As well as, experience with automation systems as can be found in leading semiconductor test systems and associated handlers.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Analyze and participate in customer requirements review(s).
  • Design new and/or modify existing electro-mechanical assemblies and detail parts to meet specific end customer requirements.
  • Complete all detail drawings, assembly drawings and Bill of Materials to all initial manufacturing builds and eventual production level manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate thermal and mechanical solutions into product designs.
  • Conduct thermal and mechanical testing to validate designs and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Optimize thermal and mechanical designs to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product performance.
  • Identify risk areas and optimization opportunities.
  • Present designs during internal Design Reviews and Customer Design Reviews.
  • Develop test specifications, detail test plans and evaluation protocols.
  • Perform electro-mechanical component, assembly and integration testing and final qualification testing.
  • Interpret functional test results and present findings to senior technical staff, vendors and customers.
  • Develop and implement mechanical design changes that may be identified during testing or design verification review.
  • Work as part of a team that includes manufacturing, quality assurance and technical support organizations to establish functional specifications for components and to select vendors/suppliers for purchased parts, materials and assemblies.
  • Recommend and design innovations and improved methods, tools and processes.
  • Perform hands-on evaluation of prototype system build/sub-assembly build /thorough product performance assessment.
  • Core execution of higher-level system integration design and deployment of solutions.
  • Work closely with external Technology partners on projects and successfully accomplishes common product design/ production goals.
  • All other duties as assigned.
