Job Description

This position will report to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), Infrastructure Division, Construction Management Bureau's office in Moccasin, CA on a Full-time basis. The selected candidate will be assigned to various Hetchy Capital Improvement Projects from San Joaquin County to Tuolumne County. Residence in Moccasin, CA or its environs is highly desired due to the work location of this position.

Under the general direction of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Infrastructure Division, Construction Management Bureau Manager: performs professional construction management work in sites such as reservoirs, dams, hydro-electric generators, high voltage transmission lines and substations, water treatment plants, pump stations, transmission systems for potable water and clean water, wastewater facilities, roads, and associated commercial/industrial/ mechanical/electrical equipment and controls in the field and office. This position will be assigned to various construction projects managed by the SFPUC Construction Management Bureau (CMB), including but not limited to projects in the Sewer System Improvement Program (SSIP), Hetchy Capital Improvement Projects (HCIP), and other capital and rehabilitation programs for the SFPUC.

Essential Functions:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to: conduct field inspections of construction projects to ensure conformance with plans, specifications and codes; check and record work progress at construction projects; review contractor's submittals, requests for information and related administrative documents; assist with the preparation of progress payments; prepare meeting minutes, correspondence and construction-related reports; perform office engineering tasks at construction field offices; and perform limited supervision of junior engineers, student engineering trainees and other subordinate personnel. This position may perform in the capacity of Resident Engineer in small value construction contracts. This position requires working with contractors and professional & sub-professional engineering personnel; and occasionally meeting with the general public on construction and engineering matters.

This position will require climbing ladders and/or crawling into tight spaces such as pipelines and tunnels. This position may require assignments to areas remote from San Francisco on a regional program or project basis and may require occasional travel with overnight or multiple-night stays at remote areas. This position will be assigned to the Construction Management Bureau.

Class 5203 performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

A. Possession of a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree from an engineering program with a major in the field of study related to the specialty area defined for each position.

Required Engineering Degrees per specialty:

Civil: Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Structural Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or Engineering Management.

Mechanical: Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.

AND

B.Possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate issued by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

AND

C.One (1) year of verifiable professionalCivilengineering experience performing at least three of the following tasks:

a. Preparing or assisting in preparing studies, designs, drawings, sketches, and plans using AutoCAD and other software tools

b. Collecting data to assess project needs and define project scope through site visits, surveying, review of existing documents, reports, drawing and manuals, performing measurements, collecting samples, or/and interviews with the stakeholders.

c. Preparing or assisting in the preparation of contract specifications, lists of materials, cost estimates, schedules, and progress payments.

d. Preparing or assisting in the preparation of engineering reports and reports concerning field conditions, the progress of projects, the results of studies, and other matters.

e. Conducting data analyses and mathematical calculations, in order to determine type or size of material or equipment.

f. Conducting routine field inspections of construction and repair projects in progress to ensure conformance with plans, specifications and codes; checks and records work progress at various construction sites.

Note:Internships, drafting experience, and student design work do not qualify as professional engineering experience.

OR

2. Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
