Job Description

The 5207 Associate Electrical Engineer will process and manage payments and/or reimbursements associated with new and existing electric service customers at City development and redevelopment areas. The 5207 Associate Electrical Engineer will review and approve electric service applications for new and existing customers at City developments and redevelopment areas.

The 5207 Associate Electrical Engineer will work to facilitate the interconnection of CCSF electrical projects to PG&E system. In this capacity, the Associate Electrical Engineer will review, comment and communicate the engineering drawings for the electric service connections and attend meetings in office and field. Under general supervision, the Associate Electrical Engineer of the Power Enterprise Engineering primarily review the electric design of the applicant for the utility interconnection and in consultation with the project design engineers based on PG&E Greenbook requirements and Interconnection Agreement (IA); facilitate and negotiate the electric service interconnection of municipal customers on behalf of City Departments to PG&E transmission, distribution and secondary systems including the interpretation of applicable CPUC Rules and tariffs; review and analyze the most feasible service voltages for various service applications; provide technical and engineering support in the planning and design of SFPUC-owned electric utility distribution and services; coordinate and work closely with engineering staff, project manager, maintenance and construction crew and other related personnel engaged in engineering and construction of SFPUC owned electric utility services and infrastructures including street and pedestrian lights. The position requires a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), a valid driver's license, and a California Professional Engineering License.

Project Name: Distribution Services Retail Customers, Redevelopment Projects

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate assigned interconnection projects.
  • Work closely with Project managers, City engineers, consultants, contractors and PG&E to contribute to successful completion of the interconnection projects.
  • Develop proficiency with IA, PG&E rules, the Greenbook, and other rules and regulations to effectively support and protect the interest of the client departments.
  • Provide assistance to the Engineer and Associate Engineer in collecting data and performing engineering calculations.
  • Prepare electrical engineering drawings and other engineering documents by use of computer-aided drafting (specifically AutoCAD) and MS Office Suite (primarily MS Excel).
  • Manage assigned interconnection projects from inception to completion.
  • Work closely with project managers, City engineers, consultants, contractors and PG&E for the interconnection of electric services.
  • Develop proficiency with Interconnection Agreement, PG&E Rules, Greenbook standard to effectively support and protect the interest of the client City departments.
  • Coordinate and work closely with PG&E service planning department for the scheduling of engineering and construction of interconnection projects.
  • 5 Sign PG&E contracts, collect check payment from City departments and submit payment to PG&E.
  • 5207 performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
  1. Three (3) years verifiable professional electrical engineering work experience, which includes two (2) years experience equivalent to or higher than a 5236 Assistant Electrical Engineer. AND
  2. Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in the electrical disciplines.

License or Certificate:

Most positions require a valid driver license.
