As part of Detection and Measurement, CUES is the world's leading developer of water, wastewater, and storm water inspection equipment. With CCTV cameras, pre-built vehicles, and software for pipeline inspection and rehabilitation, we improve the safety and reliability of our water infrastructure systems.

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a member of the engineering lab staff, we are seeking a motivated and innovative Engineering Lab Software Technician to join our development team. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for testing and qualifying software and hardware products to ensure that they are robust, visually appealing, and functional across Linux and/or web-based systems. The ideal candidate will possess a foundation in software testing principles and a willingness to learn and grow in a collaborative environment. Experience with modern agile practices and familiarity with C++ is advantageous for this role.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)



  1. Testing and Validation

    • Test software and hardware designed for underground inspection robots.
    • Work with cutting edge vision-based inspection systems.
    • Conduct usability testing and present feedback to refine and enhance designs.
    • Create and revise test procedures.






  1. Collaboration and Teamwork

    • Work closely with the development team to ensure code is stable and has optimal performance.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, developers, and product managers to verify system functionality and user-friendly interfaces.






  1. Deployment and Maintenance

    • Assist in deployment of new software/firmware builds.





What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience



  • 3-5 years of proven experience as an engineering technician or similar role, with a focus on software testing and quality assurance.
  • In-depth knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, Selenium).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems and components.
  • Exposure to version control systems such as Git.
  • Familiarity with established Agile engineering design principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with standard Office Tools (Word, Excel, Acrobat).



Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Proficiency in C++ programming language is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Linux application development and system-level programming is a plus.
  • Experience with additional programming languages such as Python, Java, or Bash Script is a plus.
  • Familiarity with usability testing methodologies and tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and deployment.
  • Familiarity with software version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
  • A proactive and collaborative mindset, with a passion for staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.



Education & Certifications



  • Associate degree or equivalent certificate within a field of engineering technology required.
  • Certification in software testing (e.g., ISTQB) or Agile methodologies preferred.



Travel & Working Environment



  • 8AM - 5PM, Monday - Friday
  • The role involves occasional travel and requires the ability to work within commercial and scientific teams.
