Are you a benefits-focused Human Resources professional looking for a new opportunity with a great company? If so, Lamar's Corporate office is now hiring an HR Benefits Coordinator to administer employee leave of absence (short-term and long-term), reasonable accommodations, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local leave laws, and other ancillary benefit plans. This role helps maintain a productive, legally compliant, and supportive work environment.

For your first three months, this will be an in-person, on-site position at our Corporate office in Baton Rouge, LA. Following this 3-month period and dependent on job performance, you will have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule.


What you can expect from us:

  • Monday through Friday schedule, 8-hour days within business hours of 8am - 5pm
  • Hourly rate of $19.24 on a weekly pay schedule
  • Weekly 1:1s with supervisor, monthly HR department meetings, and monthly team meetings

What we are looking for in you:

  • Strong knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Efficient at independently managing multiple tasks and deadlines concurrently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Smartsheet, and Google Suite or similar software.
  • Experience with HCM system (UKG Pro) or ability to quickly learn systems required


Education and experience:
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification in lieu of HR or related degree


Preferred:

  • Two years of leave administration or benefits experience
  • Experience with administration of drug testing and applicable laws
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
  • Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration


A day in the life:

  • Communicates with employees and managers regarding leaves and/or modified work schedules. Also responds to questions on a variety of ancillary benefits (Life, Hospital, Critical Illness, and Accident plans).
  • Educates employees and managers of their responsibilities, any documentation and notice required to qualify for and to take leave.
  • Coordinates with vendor, employees, and managers to facilitate positive employee/manager experience while confirming compliance. Supports the leave administration process from the employee's initial notice of the need for leave through the return to work.
  • Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work; relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.
  • Advises managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers' compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
  • Facilitates other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA.
  • Recommends revisions to company leave policies to comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation of best practices.
  • Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files and ensures compliance with data privacy regulations and best practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws.
  • Administer drug testing registrations and process quarterly random drug testing.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The primary work environment is an office.
  • The physical demands for this position include light lifting, seeing (focusing on reading), sitting or standing more than 50% of the time, talking, and walking.
  • Nights spent traveling, away from home, are less than 10%.
