Legal Assistant will perform administrative and business-related duties in support of the department, draft correspondence and write reports. Assign work and train entry-level clerical staff. Receive phone calls and answer routine inquiries on behalf of supervisor. Seek resolutions and respond to requests for department-related information.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Receive and answer routine inquiries and phone calls on behalf of supervisor; seek resolutions and respond to requests for department-related information.
2. Maintain records pertaining to daily transactions and business detail of the department such as time records, budget expenditures, preparation of personnel actions, etc.
3. Assist in the research and compile data; analyze information and statistical reports.
4. Prepare documents and correspondence requiring knowledge of legal terminology and document formats, such as contracts, briefs, policies, complains and motions.
5. Perform a wide variety of typing assignments which may be confidential in nature and require research to complete;compose, edit, revise letters and other reports.
6. Attend meetings as a representative of the department as assigned.
7. Responsible for establishing and maintaining official documents, files and file systems, related to pending litigation, legal transactions, calendaring court and other deadlines, and monitoring other matters handled by the Legal Department.
8. Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED, and two (2) years of work experience in a secretarial or clerical role. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
SCREENING AND COMPLIANCE
1. Must have the demonstrated ability to draft correspondence, use of computer for word processing, database and spreadsheet; basic bookkeeping, purchasing procedures and timekeeping.
2. Must have the demonstrated ability to administer filing systems utilized by a law firm or legal department.
3. May be required to demonstrate ability in word processing using correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and format.
4. Must have the ability to communicate in oral and written English.
5. Must have knowledge of standard office procedures and practices for a law office or legal department.
6. Must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with the public, supervisors, and co-workers.
7. Must have the ability to set priorities for self and others.
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:
1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination.
2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. All essential duties are performed indoors.
2. Duties are performed in a temperature controlled environment.
3. Duties are performed on an even surface, which may be carpeted or tiled. Working surface is typically dry.
4. Employee handles information of a confidential nature.
5. Employee often works alone both with or without directions from supervisor.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS
1. Equipment typically used in the performance of office duties include telephone, computer terminal, computer printer, computer keyboard, typewriter, photocopy machine, fax machine and calculator.
2. Materials and products handled in the course of performing essential duties include files, forms, reports, various other paperwork, and a wide variety of basic office supplies.

5. Must be able to use hands and fingers in order to grasp/manipulate various equipment and materials needed to perform duties and responsibilities.
6. Must be able to coordinate use of hands and eyes in operation of equipment such as telephone, typewriter and computer.
