Are you an accountant seeking a challenging opportunity with a firm committed to our employees and providing excellence? S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Finance team based in our Headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina.

About the Role:

The Staff Accountant role is designed for an experienced individual to manage a broad range of accounting functions in alignment with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Key responsibilities include conducting account reconciliations, handling local tax filings, preparing journal entries, managing general ledger accruals, and overseeing period-end and month-end close processes. The role involves financial reporting and offering technical advice to operational leaders during annual budget planning.

Duties encompass assisting in period-end general ledger closing, managing fixed assets and lease schedules, performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations, monitoring and forecasting cash flow, and contributing to financial reporting, analysis, and projections. The Staff Accountant will also support the annual budgeting process, evaluate acquisitions, maintain stock schedules, and ensure year-end compliance for ESOP and 401k plans.

Additional responsibilities include preparing board meeting materials, filing sales and use tax returns, preparing annual property tax returns, supporting audits, and reviewing process and internal control improvements. The role requires providing financial support and training to various team members, developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, and addressing discrepancies with senior management.

Success in this position requires a proven track record in implementing standards, leading change, exhibiting leadership, and driving results to align with the company's strategic goals.

About You:



  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of General Ledger experience
  • You have proven Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) knowledge and experience
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office and financial software programs
