Job Summary

The Sonoma State University Student Health Center (SHC) is a rewarding, pleasant, busy, nationally accredited campus clinic. Services provided by CSU student health centers include, but are not limited to, primary medical care, counseling and psychological services, and sexual health education and support (including provision of medication abortion services.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Counseling and Psychological Services and the Student Health Center (Sr. Director), the Counseling Center and Student Health Center Analyst performs varied administrative, technical and analytical duties in support of the day-to-day operations for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and the Student Health Center (SHC). The incumbent serves as a liaison and main resource for students and staff in diverse and complex matters of policy, procedure, and practice by providing information, historical background and rationales. The incumbent performs tasks of limited to moderate complexity and is expected to use independent judgment to make decisions, interpret and apply department, division, campus and system-wide policies and procedures, perform research when needed, provide supporting documentation, and provide lead office assistance in support of the departments. Assignments require handling of multiple work priorities and accountability for own work results. Contacts involve interaction with all levels inside and outside the university, and may include dealing with sensitive and confidential information while maintaining strict confidentiality of client information.

Key Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor's degree and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development and improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures is preferred. Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of Google Suite, Drupal and PeopleSoft preferred. The incumbent must be able to learn new technology systems, such as Titanium (an electronic scheduling and record keeping system for psychological records).

The incumbent must possess strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking skills and excellent written and oral communication skills, including a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, expertise in using office software packages, technology and systems, and ability to update and retrieve information from database applications. Ability to apply knowledge of appointment scheduling, client triage, psychological records management, psychological ethics, confidentiality, and risk management; ability to quickly, accurately and effectively perform all of the described duties of the position while responding to shifting priorities and to the challenges of performing multiple duties in an active, fast-paced counseling clinic environment with intense public contact; ability to effectively and assertively advocate for CAPS needs with internal and external parties and to escalate issues as appropriate; ability to deal effectively with emotionally distressed students and urgent counseling situations in a calm, empathic, professional and efficient manner; ability to maintain professional demeanor when faced with inappropriate behavior, language or requests from distraught students; and an ability to be highly discreet and maintain strict confidentiality.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $3,694 to $4,167 a month. This is a full time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
