Minimum Qualifications

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Division I Men's Basketball program as an assistant or head coach, staff member, or player.
Position Summary
Serve as Director of Player Development and provide assistance to the Head Men's Basketball Coach in assigned areas of the intercollegiate basketball program. Responsible for off-the-field activities of student athletes which promote the successful balancing of academic, athletic, community, and leadership commitments; coordinate community outreach programming; serve as liaison to high school coaches and GHSA; provide leadership and support for the programs related to student-athlete wellness. Ensure compliance with all NCAA, SEC, UGA, and UGAAA rules and regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Previous experience in Division I Men's Basketball program as a head or assistant coach and/or player.
  • Familiar with and demonstrate a commitment to compliance with NCAA and SEC rules.
  • Ability to communicate and organize schedules.
  • Ability to stay up to date with recruiting current events and keep coaches informed.
  • Understand computer systems, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Stand; walk; reach with hands and arms.
  • Sit and talk or hear.
  • Lift or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Close and distance vision, and peripheral vision.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but escalates to high during practice and athletic competitions.

Team Liaison:

  • Assist student-athletes in successfully balancing academic, athletic, community, and leadership commitments.
  • Responsible for managing the development of student-athletes related to life skills (academic, personal, leadership, and career development).
  • Develop, manage, communicate, and implement team rules and expectations to student-athletes, coaches, parents/guardians, support staff, and other pertinent individuals.
  • Develop, manage, communicate, and implement student-athlete conduct, both positive and negative.

Academic Liaison:

  • Liaison between Academic staff and Coaching staff; facilitate weekly meetings between two groups.
  • In coordination with academic support staff, assist in coordinating academic responsibilities and troubleshooting individual student-athlete issues.
  • Communicate daily with academic support staff to monitor academic responsibilities and facilitate academic achievement by the student-athletes.
  • Proficiency in technology used to monitor daily academic progress of student-athletes (Portal and Teamworks).
  • In coordination with academic support staff, facilitate zero tolerance plans for academic issues.
  • Daily monitoring to ensure compliance with Athletic Association policies related to class and academic appointment attendance.
  • Ensure appropriate communication with parents/guardians regarding academic and conduct matters.
  • Work with academic support staff to ensure appropriate balance between academic and athletic related schedules.

Administrative:

  • In coordination with the Compliance Office, coordinate programming with agent education consultant.
  • Coordinate community outreach programming for student-athletes; maintain accurate records for compliance purposes; provide photographs of outreach to Student Services to ensure proper credit for participants.
  • Manage 5th year and medically disqualified student-athletes to ensure academic, career, and leadership development, including assigning daily career development schedules for each student-athlete.
  • Assist with on-campus recruiting.
