Manager, Development

Jhpiego is seeking a Manager, Development to serve a critical role in securing and growing financial resources for Jhpiego from individual and smaller corporate and foundation donors. With the Director of Major Gifts, the Manager will bolster Jhpiego's pipeline of supporters and ensure a well-cultivated and stewarded donor base.

Responsibilities:

Individual Fundraising

  • Supports the overall development and execution of a comprehensive annual fund program, including strategies to incorporate e-campaigns, giving circles, focus on new donors, and increasing average gift amounts.
  • Manages communications and appeal strategy and schedule for new, existing, and lapsed donors and prospects in the annual fund pipeline.
  • With the communications and marketing team, plans and implements multiple direct appeals annually, with a high degree of customization and emotional appeal.
  • Oversees print, mail, and fulfilment timelines with outside vendors as it relates to direct mail and email solicitations.
  • Grows Jhpiego's Sustainers program through reimagined strategies and personal outreach, ensuring regular and reliable philanthropic revenue on a monthly/annual basis.
  • Creates and implements strategies to increase matching gift revenue.
  • Supports donor retention, renewal, and acquisition.
  • Assists in year-end summary receipting.

Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

* Plans and leads the annual Miles for Mothers program:

  • Determines and monitors program goals and benchmarks year-over-year.
  • Engages external audiences and internal staff in program participation.
  • Identifies and collaborates with external races to serve as charity partners to raise unrestricted revenue.
  • With the Director, Strategic Giving, develops and finalizes sponsorship packets and targets.
  • Develops a stewardship plan for Miles for Mothers participants.
  • Develops race-day collateral.

* Other peer-to-peer fundraisers:

  • Serves as lead point of contact for all types of peer-to-peer fundraisers, including birthdays, academic and/or club fundraisers, among others.
  • Promotes and grows peer-to-peer platform usage.
  • Monitors and improves peer-to-peer platform user experience in collaboration with IT.
  • Provides collateral for and serves as a spokesperson for peer-to-peer participations.
  • Develops stewardship plans for all peer-to-peer events and conduct personal outreach to participants on a regular basis.

* Continuously innovates and strategizes how to grow and refine peer-to-peer programming.

Board Engagement & Major Gifts

  • Maintains a select portfolio of major gift ($10k+) prospects.
  • Works on select grant applications and prospecting of potential funders.
  • Recommends donors who should be advanced in the donor pipeline.
  • With the Director, Individual Philanthropy, serves as a point of contact to the advisory board and board committees, providing support to create a one-on-one working relationship via outreach and external relations efforts.
  • Prepares select correspondence for board members and major gift donors.
  • Communicates professionally, positively, and effectively with Advisory Board members, donors, and potential donors verbally and in written form.
  • Assists in the stewardship process for major donors.

Elevate Fundraising

  • Works closely as a team member with the staff to develop project plans, and divisional goals.
  • Tracks personal activity benchmarks to monitor progress.
  • Provides ongoing support to the Director, Individual Philanthropy for general operations and special projects, as needed.
  • Monitors giving@jhpiego.org account for new opportunities, donor communications, and engagements.

Database & Reporting

  • Provides timely and accurate activity metrics and reports at the request of the Director, Individual Philanthropy.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of development database.
  • Conducts select data entry, record maintenance, report/query generation and creates mailing and email lists as needed.
  • Helps advise and implement data-entry policies and procedures.

Special Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Ambitious fundraising professional with a track-record of meeting and exceeding goals.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with a variety of stakeholders, like board members, donors, prospects, colleagues.
  • Well-versed in digital fundraising best practices.
  • Proactive and goal-driven approach to job responsibilities.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, logical reasoning, and organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office, Teams).
  • Experience identifying, cultivating, securing, and stewarding donors.
  • Proficiency with fundraising CRM and project management tools like Raiser's Edge, RE NXT, Luminate Online, and/or Airtable.
  • Travel up to 15% of the time.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years related experience


Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience
