Research Technologist

The Laboratory of Translational Neurobiology, part of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a Research Technologist to focus on investigating pathogenic pathways and finding novel therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases, including Huntington's disease and related disorders. The Laboratory of Translational Neurobiology make extensive use of cell and animal models and employ a variety of molecular and biochemical techniques.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage mouse colonies, including routine care, breeding, injections, behavioral testing, and tissue harvesting and preparation.
  • Perform small animal brain structural and functional MRI scans.
  • Conduct MRI related imaging analysis.
  • Perform molecular and biochemical assays on cells and rodent and human tissues. Tasks will include cell transfection, PCR, quantitative PCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, and molecular cloning.
  • Responsible for daily lab operations, including ordering and managing laboratory supplies, compliance with regulatory requirements, care and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and coordinating among laboratory research projects within and outside of our laboratory group.
  • Develop and implement new assays.
  • Supervise and train students, provide technical advice and assistance to other laboratory members.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($38,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
