Job Description

The Senior Manager of Commercial Strategy and Insights is ideal for a driven individual with a passion for uncovering key insights to help support patient outcomes and drive commercial success. You will support the Central Nervous System (CNS) business at Otsuka Pharmaceuticals as part of the Commercial Strategy & Insights (CSI). You will be part of a high performing team that provides actionable, innovative insights to address key business questions & opportunities.

This role requires a strong leader with exceptional organizational skills and a proven ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment, while working across a complex matrix environment that includes areas in marketing, sales, sales operations, senior leadership, among others. You will report to the Director, CNS Commercial Strategy & Insights

This position is based in Princeton, New Jersey. Otsuka maintains a hybrid work policy

Job Description:

  • The Senior Manager is responsible for the design, execution, and management of multiple market research engagements. Specifically, in this role, the Senior Manger would be responsible for the following and/or be able to:

    • Conduct primary market research to gather and analyze data on customer needs, preferences, and behaviors.

    • Manage day-to-day market research workstreams, including maintaining project timelines, tracking deliverables, and fostering strong relationships with vendors to ensure project success and high-quality delivery of research projects.

    • Significant familiarity of various research methods to gather insights from key stakeholders.

    • Analyze data and present findings to key stakeholders to inform business decisions and commercial strategies.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, medical, training, and market access, to identify key business questions and develop research plans to address them.

    • Stay current with industry trends and especially the competitive landscape to inform research strategies and identify potential opportunities.

    • Communicate research findings and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

    • Contribute to the development of the annual commercial planning process by providing insights and recommendations based on research findings.

    • Partner cross-functionally on a wide variety of strategic and analytical projects to help drive optimal business decisions.

    • Lead the design and delivery of cross-functional secondary analytics reports including leadership KPI dashboards for monitoring market and brand performance.

    • Lead in-depth situation analyses and SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) of relevant disease areas in support of the annual brand planning process.

    • Manage market research budgets and/or resources effectively.

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.

    • Continuously evaluate and improve research methods and processes to ensure the highest quality and relevance of insights.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in primary market research with a min of 8+ years of pharmaceutical/biotechcommercial experience, including prior experience in data analytics / forecasting / consulting positions.

  • Experience working with secondary market research data, including prescription data, patient-level data, sales data, and payer data.

  • Experience working with third party data such as IQVIA, Symphony Health, other claims and EMR data systems.

  • Bachelor's degree or Post-graduate degree (Master's/Ph.D.) in quantitative field highly desired (Public Health, Statistics, Management Science, Operations Research, Engineering, Accounting, Business, Marketing, Economics etc.)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A strong understanding of various research methodologies specifically within the pharmaceuticals landscape.

  • A deep understanding of the commercial pharmaceutical market dynamics, including competitive landscape.

  • Ability to analyze complex data and derive actionable insights that drive business decisions.

  • Proficient in using statistical tools, with a strong analytical mindset.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively present research findings to different stakeholders and influence decision-making.

  • A record of accomplishment of working in high performing teams that deliver exceptional results.

  • A strong analytical, project management, fiscal management, and decision-making skills.

  • A positive attitude and be adaptable to a dynamic type of environment without losing focus on business goals.

  • Proven experience and expertise integrating primary and secondary data into synthesized information and insights.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interface with Executive Leadership with confidence and subject matter expertise.
