What You Will Do:

The Career Advisor position will work proactively with undergraduate students and alumni in providing robust support in career development, internship and job search. The person in this position will provide career advising and career development resources, events and programs that is focused on developing the skills to be a professional in the field and secure internships and full-time post graduation employment. The person in the role will be responsible for supporting the Career Development Manager by assisting with managing internship courses required within culinary arts, baking & pastry, hospitality and other programs as needed and contributing in classroom presentations and professional development courses and activities. This position will network with employers, faculty, staff, students, alumni and other NLU staff to promote Career Bridge programs and collaborate closely with the Employer Relations Manager for as well as with the entire Career Bridge team.



Essential Responsibilities

    Advises students on internship/job search strategies, educational and personal goals.
  • Assist with teaching professional development as modules within courses, and any future courses to be created focusing on professional development skills. May provide input on developing curriculum for these courses.
  • Collaborates with Employer Relations Manager in nurturing employer relationships and connecting students to job opportunities
  • Works closely with faculty and academic staff to collaborate on meeting student career development needs.
  • Assists in Career Bridge events, including job fairs and student programming.
  • Assists with tracking internship and employment outcomes and provides update to Executive Director of Career Bridge.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in higher education or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in university career services, staffing, recruitment, coaching, or related experience required
  • 1-3 year of professional experience in the Culinary or Hospitality field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relationship management databases, such as Handshake.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint along.
  • Demonstrated in-depth experience using LinkedIn and other professional social networking sites.
  • Time Management: Prioritizes tasks and manages time to ensure that deadlines are met. Plans his or her time and sticks to those plans. Prevents or manages interruptions until the highest priority tasks are accomplished.
  • Results Focused: Achieves results within established timelines. Understands and demonstrates that intentions, activities and results are not the same. Expects that obstacles will occur and refuses to use them as an excuse for not achieving results.
