Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Be a part of the exciting research team in Emergency Medicine! You can do this by working with several NIH-funded investigators, having a targeted range of significant domains, including substance abuse, toxicology, suicide prevention, bio-behavioral informatics, industrial engineering and process improvement, emergency ultrasound, emergency cardiology, critical care, and sepsis.

Under the direction of the Research Director or Principal Investigators, the Database Manager functions in database design, development and management, and performs various tasks necessitating data required for research projects in the healthcare setting. This position is responsible for the analysis of user needs, database design, programming and life cycle development of clinical study applications. The Database Manager will assist in the evaluation and research of 3rd party's needs and conduct feasibility studies to determine appropriate solutions. Communicate well with the user through all phases of database development, management and support. Perform duties in a manner consistent with a complex, diverse, dynamic hardware and software environment that serves a complex medical/education community.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    D esigning, developing, and modifying data infrastructure to accelerate the processes of data analysis and reporting.
  • Developing comprehensive project plans and proactively act upon work assignments.
  • Developing standards of operation when handling and archiving data.
  • Maintaining data management plans and instructions for operating complex work systems.
  • Evaluating the design, selection, and implementation of database changes by comparing them with real world requirements and design documents.
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining proper documentation for each system in a consistent and structured manner.
  • Coordinating data collection and analysis team in data collection, validation and quality assurance.
  • Ensuring quality control through testing and debugging programing for accuracy, completeness, and system integrity.
  • Assisting in solving database usage issues and malfunctions.
  • Ensuring data and information security by integrating and upholding digital security systems.
  • Performing other duties as required.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or Bio-medical field, or equivalent experience
  • 4 years of experience in a business, educational, or clinical IS environment in database design, management, data analysis, or other data administration functions.
  • 4 years demonstrated progressive experience in using two or more of the following technologies:
    • Oracle or Microsoft SQL databases required
    • SQL
    • Vision
    • Working experience in EPIC and WEBI/Universe report required.
    • Computing in a distributed environment including connectivity, interface and file transfer issues.
  • Demonstrated progressive work experience in project management and project planning.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and organize large amounts of data.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, with ability to work well with others in the medical setting and comfort in varied organizational relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Hands on experience with SAS a plus.
  • Working experience in ICD/CPT coding a plus.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills
